Several mentally deranged inmates admitted in The Pelican Centre, recover from their illness due to the treatments (medical, psychological, counselling and love-therapy) they receive during their stay here and become near-normal (symptom-free). Most of them could be sent back to their homes and could live a normal life on continual medication and support from the families. However, many of the families have apprehension about bring their dear and near back home as they have shown mental derangement once.
Half-way home is a concept brought out by The Pelican Centre to smoothen the process of rehabilitation of the recovered (symptom-free) inmates, associating them with their families. Family members will stay with them for a period of 6 months to get accustomed with the behavioural pattern of the recovered and get trained how to take care of them in their families.
A separate building consisting of seven floors each floor having around 9300 sq. ft is being constructed for this purpose. The construction of two floors is already completed and the project was inaugurated on 26-Jan-2018 by Hon. Justice V K Mohan, Chairperson, State Police Complaints Authority, Kerala, India.
The concept of Half-way home let The Pelican Centre have multiple benefits in its mission:
